Gookinaid E.R.G. (Energy Replacement with Glucose) was the recovery drink I used during my first marathons in 2006. I purchased a kilo tub of it at a local REI store without knowing its history.
After getting back into running again at several points since then, I was unable to find it. Then for a time I forgot what it was--I just had a vague memory of it.
Today I found a reference to it in some of my old blog posts.
It seems the founder, Bill Gookin, died on January 28, 2019, aged 86. Remembrances of his life can be found at the Times of San Diego and at the Legacy.com.
Vitalyte now represents the name of his electrolyte replacement drink.
The name change seems to have occurred around 2007 or so.

The California Secretary of State business search documents incorporation of Gookinaid ERG, Inc. in Nevada on October 14, 2005 (filed in California in December 2005). On September 12, 2011, the corporation amended its Nevada Articles of Incorporation to change its name to Vitalyte Sports Nutrition, Inc. (filed in California in April 2012):
