Life intervenes

Fixed a smashed window on our car today. $40 at Pick 'n Pull, a local auto dismantler, for a new driver-side window, plus about five hours to clean-up the glass, pull the part, install the part, wash/vacuum the car, and travel to/from these places. Also tested the car's emissions.

The opportunity allowed me to pull several other minor interior plastic parts, so, all-in-all, the car functions a bit better than before.

The person who smashed the window made off with about $10 in quarters we keep in our glove box to plug parking meters. ; o ) Otherwise, they left everything, including the food bars.

We had a very windy evening on Saturday, so we heard nothing. Our neighbor said a person rode up the driveway unannounced, asking for plastic bottles. She requested he leave immediately--so, possibly, the person came back out of spite or desperation? Seems like an opportunistic robbery.

I love walking around the cars at the auto dismantler; the crunch of gravel underfoot, the heat of the sun, the great variety of vehicles in all manor of disrepair, the parts lying strewn about, the voyeurism of finding hints of the previous owners' lives, tearing apart things without worry of breaking anything--educating myself in the process, and paying next-to-nothing for what amounts to a perfectly great part.

I have a mean red tan line, now, on my arms and neck; Dawn put some aloe on me . : o ) I do not burn easily, though, given my darker complexion, so, hopefully all will be well.
